Open Doors

If you are anything like me, then you most likely have entered 2013 with a number of mind-body un-resolutions; unresolved issues pertaining to your health and wellness that have rolled over from last year.  I often receive inquiries from people who are interested in exploring some of their un-resolutions by receiving Thai Yoga Massage, as it is a form of bodywork therapy that calls to attention an increased awareness of our psychosomatic condition. I welcome and encourage this approach, as well as offer some additional guidance towards self initiated resolution.

As the passionate duet of our minds and bodies continue dancing on into the new year, it becomes increasingly important to have awareness of our personal and societal surroundings. When you begin to feel a discordant quality within your life or body, direct your attention to the environment(s) in which you find yourself. Our bodies are miraculous vessels that are often more malleable and reactive than we anticipate.

A discordant quality often arises as a reflection of a discordant quality outside of the body. It is crucial to strive towards remaining at balance within ourselves so as not to openly take on the many imbalances that surround us. Think of changes you can make to your environment that may have a positive influence on your “inner habitat”. Then, devise a plan to protect and preserve this inner habitat, perhaps a daily walk or period of time with all wireless devices turned off.

I encourage those of you who have stumbled upon this page or directly sought it out to continue your investigation of more ways to bring resolution and knowledge to your experience. Thai Yoga Massage, when performed by a well-trained and intuitive practitioner, has the ability to open many doors for new possibilities in ones life. It is a joy through my work to help facilitate these openings, however, it remains up to the individual to take the step forward. I wish all of you a beautiful start to the new year. May it be one of strength, empowered struggle and ultimate success.

Many Blessings,

Levi

Recently, I visited one of my favorite sites, the Leverett Peace Pagoda. It had been many months since I had been in western Massachusetts and I wanted to share its beauty with my teacher and her daughter. While there, I meditated on the direction of my life’s journey and two important questions came to surface:

1. Where do I receive inspiration from?

2. How open am I to receiving bliss?
Perhaps these questions will serve you as well. One of the people I receive inspiration from is my teacher, and I wish to express gratitude to her for opening  my eyes to the healing art of Thai Yoga Massage. Thank you Ariela, may the sweetness of your soul abide with the spread of the dhamma.

“Receive the Bliss”

Working in the Round

Traditional Mongolian Yurt

Many of my clients have been remarking on how enjoyable and relaxing it is to receive massage in a round space. A Yurt is a traditional nomadic roundhouse popularized by Central Asian populations. Here are a few pictures taken during a workshop that I led this past Spring in the yurt in Princeton where I work. I feel so fortunate spending my time in such a beautiful structure that compliments the natural world instead of posing a hindrance. Yurts are conducive to deep learning as well as deep simplicity. There is much to be gained by spending more time in the round. If you have not yet spent time in a round house or experienced massage in one (wink-wink), do contact me: levi.gersh@gmail.com

For those interested in learning more about or purchasing their own yurt, I recommend visiting yurts.com

Background History

Thai Yoga Massage or Nuad Borarn (as it is pronounced in Thai) is an ancient healing art that originated in India 2500 years ago.

Nuad Borarn is a partner form of massage which employs specific techniques to achieve deep states of relaxation and healing. Based on a blend of Chinese and Ayurvedic  acupressure points (marmas), this practice migrated to Thailand through the spread of Buddhism. Along the way, the evolving technique grew to include other forms of indigenous massage and martial arts. In recent years, Nuad Borarn has become rejoined with Ayurvedic philosophy and has received a renewed interest around the world.

नमस्ते Namaste

Come, come whoever you are.

Wonderer, worshiper, lover of leaving, it doesn’t matter.

Ours is not  not a caravan of despair.

Come, even if you have broken your vow a thousand times.

Come, yet again, come, come.
